How I work with you
As your professional coach, I support you as your thinking partner to explore possibilities, increase awareness and uncover answers you value.
When we are coaching together one-to-one, we are in a private discussion either online, outdoors or in person, using professional coaching and leadership concepts, methods and tools.
Individual coaching uses goal setting, questions, listening, adaptive responses, structured techniques, ideas, models, thinking and reflection to support you to reach your desired outcome.
We will be using coaching techniques, tools and documentation for agreeing goals and how we will work together, and for exploring ideas, issues and options. These inform your future choices and actions as required for your goals and needs. I use various models of professional coaching practice to guide discussion that are appropriate for you. I also use respected models of leadership, learning and development, behaviour, interactions and psychology for individuals and organisations.
“I have learned many things about myself, and the main one is that I am important too… it is easy to only think about your team and you forget about yourself and your own wellbeing. You helped me take action to look after my own wellbeing and realise that I matter too.”
Coaching Process
There is a typical path through the 1-1 coaching process and sessions:
A half hour introduction session and followup pre-coaching questionnaire explains the coaching process, begins to identify topics and outcomes, checks our fit with each other and confirms coaching can help with your situation. This session is not charged.
We usually agree a set number of sessions, such as six or ten sessions of 90 minutes each, to work on specific topics. A set number of sessions encourages progress against your desired outcomes and your independence. If new topics emerge or circumstances change, we can agree to keep going.
At the first full coaching session, we discuss topics and outcomes in more detail and agree confidentiality and our responsibilities to each other. I document our agreement, including your goals and indicators of success.
Sessions are online, or outdoors. Online offers sustainability and convenience through reduced travel, however there are many benefits to coaching outdoors you may like to experience.
Midway and at the end of your sessions I will ask you to review your original goals, outcomes and progress with simple questionnaires.
“I’ve realised being on my own talking with you how much more I hear myself, and how clear my reasoning can be without distractions of the team and environment. ”
Coaching and Mentoring
I operate primarily by a coaching rather than mentoring model, although can do both.
This means the coaching and agenda is led by you, supported by my questions and developmental methods to create a space for you to think, explore possibilities, generate options and uncover your insights and answers. Your view of the world and what is important for you will be uppermost, not imposed solutions or my world-view.
However, if you prefer, we can agree in advance to pepper the coaching with a little mentoring based on my experience or thoughts, when it is in your interest. I might offer an idea, information, another option or how others dealt with a similar issue.
Usually your ideas and resources are considered first, and you will be asked for your permission before switching to mentoring mode. You choose whether to accept anything I offer you, based on what you know is best for you.
